Classic Shit!

I've decided to post an album a day or so that I (and probably others) would consider to be classic material. Most will be albums you are likey to have heard about or listened to but some you may not. Listen to the tracks and if you like what your hearing buy the album. For starters...

Diamond & The Psychotic Neurotics - Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop

Released in 1992, Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop was Diamond D's first album. As well as providing verses, Diamond also did most of the production for the album. Apart from Diamond, it features production from the likes of Showbiz, Large Professor, Q-Tip and DJ Mark the 45 King. In terms of lyrics, there are guest appearances from Big L and Fat Joe, both fellow D.I.T.C rappers, and a few others.

This album is a favourite of mine because Diamond's production is of a different style to other classic albums from that period. The production on Diamond's album is dope. Tracks that particularly stand out are 'Sally Got A One Track Mind', a classic on it's own, production and verses from Diamond. 'I Went For Mine', produced by Jazzy Jay has a great laid back beat. 'Check One, Two', Production from Diamond and 45 King. Im also a fan of 'I'm Outta Here' with guest producer Showbiz, and some nice lyrics from Diamond. Lastly 'Freestyle' is well worth listning to for the production from Large Professor.
Great Album for your library, check it out.

Keep lookin out for more D.I.T.C material that I'll post soon - J

Sample the UK flavour...

The UK is home to some mighty talented hip hop heads, check out these below to sample some of the best of what we have to offer...

Jehst 'Falling Down' (2003)
The first half of this post features Jehst, a British rapper born in Sussex and raised in the grim post industrial north in Huddersfield. Jehst's lyrics are mad intelligent and he has a real unique style and flow. The album features production from Jehst and the much acclaimed UK beat maker Lewis Parker. Below is a selection of tracks for you to download from this album.

Klashnekoff 'The Sagas of Klashnekoff' (2004)

The second half features another UK rapper Klashnekoff, known for his picture painting lyrical ability as perfectly demonstrated in the track 'Black Rose'. A founding member of the Terra Firma crew, Klashnekoff's debut album secured his place in UK hip hop with tracks such as 'Murda' becoming widely successful. The album features production from Joe Buhda and Lewis Parker. Below are a selection of tunes from the album.

Hip Hop A-Z

For my first post I thought I'd start out by covering a wide range of my Hip Hop in one sweep, what better way to do this than an A - Z! So below are some classics, some underground tunes and some of my personal favourites to guide you through the alphabet...

A - All City 'The Actual'
Taken from the very much under-rated Metropolis Gold album, DJ Premiers production on this is probably some of his best. Also check Valentine smash the last verse!

B - Black Sheep ft. Show & AG 'E.F.F.E.C.T.'

C - Capone N Noreaga 'Invincible'

D - Diamond D 'I Went for Mine'
From the album 'Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop' this is the first outing of this Diamond D beat which the slightly less educated amongst you may only recognise from Busta Rhymes 'New York Shit'.

E - Erick Sermon ft. Heltah Skeltah, Trigga Tha Gambler, Starang Wondah 'If You'

F - Fat Joe 'This Shit is Real' (DJ Premier Remix)

G - Gang Starr ft. Big L 'Work Part II'

H - Hell Razah ft. Viktor Vaughn & Talib Kweli 'Project Jazz'
Nice jazzy beat from MF Doom on this new Hell Razah tune.

I - Immortal Technique 'Dance With the Devil'
Not a massive fan of IM but this tune perfectly demonstrates what he's about lyrically. Dark, dark, dark!

J - Jaylib 'The Red'
One of my favourite Dilla beats on this Madlib, Jay Dee collaberation tune.

K - Kool G Rap 'First Nigga' (DJ Premier Remix)

L - Lord Finesse ft. Big L & Percee P 'Yes You May' (Remix)
Heavy, heavy verses from the Lord Finesse and Big L, who's better? Head over to Crooklyns Classics to cast your vote. 'It ain't over till the fat lady sings, I'll shot the bitch!'

M - M.O.P. 'How About Some Hardcore'

N - Nas 'N.Y. State of Mind'
The master at his greatest.

O - O.C. 'Times Up'
O.C. at his finest calling out fake MC's over Buckwilds production.

P - Pharoahe Monche 'Gun Draws'
After a timely absence the Pharoahe is back with his new album 'Desire' and looking on form, love the opening line of the first verse.

Q - Quasimoto 'Microphone Mathmatics'

R - Royal Flush 'World Wide'

S - Show & AG 'Next Level (Nyte Time Mix)'

T - Talib Kweli 'Listen'
New Kweli from his new album 'Ear Drum', quite liking this.

U - UN 'Golden Grail'

V - Viktor Vaughn 'Saliva'
MF Doom's Viktor Vaughn over production from RJD2 on this very listenable track from the 'Vaudeville Villain' album.

W - Wu -Tang Clan ft. Cappadonna 'Triumph'
You actually cannot mess with the opening verse on this track from Inspectah Deck. In my opinion this is the best opening verse in Hip Hop from one of the Wu's most under-rated MC's.

X - Xzibit ft. Mobb Deep 'Eyes May Shine' (DJ Premiere Remix)

Y - Yungun ft. Jehst 'Beyond There'
A mighty fine UK offering featuring one of the UK's most talented MC's.

Z - Zion I 'Trippin'
